Day 9 | Simplicity

Simplicity

Simplicity is something I’ve been striving for for the past few years. Life has gotten in the way, but since our cross-country move, I’ve been able to simplify more because our life circumstances are more stable.

However, regardless of the state of life’s stability, simplicity is ultimately a state of mind and a communion with God. I want to have the same connectivity to God whether I’m teaching, or cleaning, or cooking, or running. I want to feel the same presence whether I’m in the car driving to work, or worshiping in church.

A song that captures simplicity in my faith is How Great Thou Art. It brings me back to the basis of all of this and reminds me that the simple things are the most important.

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”
