I was born and raised in the Midwest, and have now returned after many years spent living in the Southwest and Mid-Atlantic. I love dogs and writing and reading and cozy evenings lit by cozy lamps, warm mug in hand.
I started my blog Mercies Per Mile around 15 years ago. I’ve been writing about my faith, my marriage, grief, infertility, my experiences moving around the country, and the related complex feelings and self-realizations.
I rebranded this blog to “Mercies per Mile 2.0: Mercy Unmasked” to give myself a more intentional space to explore the aftermath of self-identifying and then being “late-diagnosed” as Autistic and ADHD. More than any experience in my life thus far, this realization and diagnosis has shaped how I look at my life, my future, and is the lens through which I’m processing the past. It’s a lot, so here we are.
I feel that especially in this time where folks with disabilities are coming under fire, it’s even more important to share my lived experience and take my spot at the table of my community.
Thanks for being here, and I welcome any and all respectful and empathetic discussion.

…I feel her deep sense of home. I can feel it in the earth, too, when I get out of the car and walk upon the rocks. It’s in the sky and the roaring ocean and the keening of the wind, it’s in the way she strides over her land and into her lighthouse; she owns this place and it owns her, tangible and unarguable. What must it be like to be bound so deeply and willingly to a place?

Hi Elizabeth! My name is (also!) elizabeth and I am a graduate student at the London School of Economics. I’m currently writing my dissertation about military spouses and blogging, and would love to learn more about your blog. I was wondering if you might be willing to be interviewed for my research. I can give you more details via email, and would be happy to do so (I don’t want to leave a ridiculously long comment!). If this sounds like something you would like to be involved with, please let me know! You can comment back here, or email me at eliz DOT lockwood [@] gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you! All the best, elizabeth
